Our story
We wanted a fire that fit into our life. So we built one.
How it began
Like most people, we spent every winter counting down the days until spring - the long, dark months something to endure rather than embrace. As the warmth and light faded, life seemed to pause, and we waited for brighter days.
How a dark winter in scandinavia became the reason we build fire.
Searching for a better way to live through the darker months, we looked north. Despite the harsher conditions, people there don't retreat and wait for the sun to return. Instead winter is celebrated. A season to slow down, gather with the people you love, and find beauty in the stillness and the warmth indoors.
One element made that possible: fire. More than a source of heat, it became a ritual, bringing light to the darkest days and warmth to the coldest rooms, something primal that soothes the mind and draws people together.
So we set ourselves a clear goal: to make that experience available to modern life. As functional as it is elegant, offering the same calm, warmth and connection a fire naturally brings, in a safe form designed for the homes we actually live in.
A stone found nowhere else on earth.
Larvikite found us on our journey. Travelling through Norway and the rest of Scandinavia, we set out to explore the culture and heritage that first inspired glør. We were searching for one unique material worthy of the heart of our fireplace.
We found it on the south coast, near the town of Larvik: a 300 million-year-old stone with a shimmering blue schiller, quarried nowhere else on earth. The stone that would give our fireplace both its heart and its name.
It grounds the flame, scatters its light, and carries fragrance when warmed. A piece of the Norwegian earth, in your living room.

We fell for the Nordic way of life. A culture where each season is embraced with gratitude, and warmth is found in the simplest moments. Combined with our deep-rooted fascination for fire, it sparked the idea: to rethink the traditional fireplace and bring this feeling into our homes.
And so, glør Design was born.
