At glør Design, we, like many were counting down the days until spring – the long, dark winters feeling like a season to endure rather than embrace. As the warmth and light faded, life seemed to pause, leaving us in a cycle of waiting for brighter days.
Our Founders
We are Jan and Sven. By discovering the Nordic way of life, a culture where each season is embraced with gratitude and finds warmth in the simplest moments, we immediately felt inspired.
Their rituals, combined with our deep-rooted fascination for fire, sparked an idea: to rethink traditional fireplaces and bring this feeling into modern homes.
And so, glør Design was born.
A New Perspective on Winter
During our search for a better way to live through these darker months, we noticed something different in northern cultures. Despite the harsher conditions, people didn’t retreat or wait for the sun to return. Instead, winter was celebrated - a season to slow down, gather with loved ones, and find beauty in the stillness and warmth indoors.
The Elemental Power of fire
As we explored what made winter feel so different in the north, one element stood out: fire. More than just a source of heat, fire became a ritual that brought light to the darkest days and warmth to the coldest spaces. There’s something primal in the way fire soothes the mind and brings people together. It creates a sense of balance, offering both physical warmth and emotional grounding, making all seasons less to endure and more an opportunity for reflection and renewal.
Make this Experience Accessible
We set out with a clear goal: to make this transformative experience of fire available to modern life. Our design needed to be both highly functional and elegant, offering the same sense of warmth, calm, and connection that fire naturally brings to any space. We envisioned a fireplace that embodied the full sensory experience - its calming presence, its beauty, and its ability to gather people together.
Rethinking traditional fire
Traditional Chimneys, fire pits, tabletop fireplaces - there are many ways to bring the fascination of real flames into your home. But none of these options truly fit into our world.
Traditional fireplaces are expensive, complicated to install, messy, and take up a lot of space - not to mention their lack of flexibility. Once built in, they’re stuck in place and only usable where they’re installed.
On the other end of the spectrum, there are cheap tabletop fireplaces - often unsafe, poorly made, and neither functional nor aesthetically pleasing.
Our goal was to create a true alternative: a product that captures the magic of a fireplace - without smoke, without wood, and without complicated installation. Mobile, flexible, and above all: designed with the highest standards of quality, timeless aesthetics, and uncompromising safety.
